Ellacure Restaurant & Bar

Last Friday my lovely sister M celebrated her birthday and as is tradition we feasted at Ellacure. It was never intentional but somehow we have ended up here for her birthday dinner for the last four years!

Lucky for us, there were a lot of specials on that night. After settling in with a nice bottle of wine we got down to the menu selection. I opted for the Coffin Bay oysters with an eschallot vinaigrette. YUM. I am a big oyster fan and these were pretty good, especially for not being at the coast. The flavour of the oysters was freshy and sea like (rather than fishy) and they went down nicely with the tangy liquid. In hindsight, I probably should have ordered a whole dozen!

Oysters!

M decided to have something from the main menu- prosciuotto wrapped scallops with sauce vierge and a balsamic reduction. She made the comment that it was very much like bruschetta with scallops instead of bread! The flavour was fresh and not overly complicated, the scallops nicely cooked.

Bad picture of excellent scallops!

Since it was a birthday dinner and because we underestimated how much food we were actually going to get we also ordered the seasoned pizza crust with garlic, pesto and olive spreads. I love bread as much as I love oysters and this was very tasty! The crust was seasoned with rosemary and sea salt, and crunched deliciously when bitten.

The specials called our names again for the main course- M ordered the rib eye with garlic mash and gorgonzola. When it arrived we had to stop and look at it for a few minutes (yet my pic is still blurry) and admire the size. M reported that it was well cooked and that the garlic mash worked well with the creaminess of the cheese.

It's HUGE...
Just to change things up I ordered from the menu and was pretty happy with my choice of crispy salmon,  charred asparagus, sweet potato and a mustard glaze. The fish had a lovely freshness, cooked just enough through to enjoy the flavour and the skin cracked nicely off the top. Delish. The asparagus and sweet potato were a tad overcooked but the fish was so good (as was the glaze) that I wasn't bothered by it.

The night was finished off with a chocolate macadamia brownie with chocolate gelato. It was gooey and warm and M reports the gelato was pretty good too! I had ordered a hot chocolate but unfortunately it didn't arrive until we had paid our bill. By that point they had gotten quite busy but it was a bit sad because everything else had been so good.

This is another place I would come to for a special occasion, while there are a lot of pastas and pizzas on the menu that are very reasonably priced the mains are so good I would want to wait and taste them instead!

As a bit of a postscript, yes, I shall soon stop taking the food pictures after having wine. It makes my time more enjoyable but the pictures are never as happy.
