There are days at the office that seem to stretch for far longer than a day ever should. These are the kinds of days when you hope that someone suggests an activity to get you out of the doldrums. Last week we had one of those days, quickly solved by the suggestion of lunch. Cocorea was a perfect suggestion due to its proximity to both the office and an ATM as well as its price range.
Its a simple restaurant with pictures of food on the walls, a mix of Korean and Japanese food that ensures lunch time seats are hard to come by. Each table is furnished with soy sauce and the deliciousness of Korean chilli sauce.
We didn't have time for me to take pictures of everything (also, three of five of us had Bibimbap) but the food was so good that it doesn't really matter what the pictures look like.
The first dish to arrive was the bulgolgi with noodles. Tender beef marinated in pear juice and served with noodles and vegetables. Enough to satisfy but not starchy enough to cause a 3PM office nap!
We also got some gyoza, piping hot and a big enough serve for everyone to share. They were a bit busy the day we went so the dumplings could have been drained better, but they were cooked well and as tasty as usual.
And then of course there is the bibimbap. Different people have different ideas of comfort food, but there is not much better on a rainy day than a hot stone bowl filled with meat, rice and vegetables topped with a raw egg and served with miso soup. Yum. The picture does not do it justice but by the time it arrived I was so hungry that I jumped in as soon as the egg cooked and I'd had time to add the chilli sauce!
And of course, we get some miso, served in cute little red bowls.
Our food took a while on this particular day but usually it is on the table within about five minutes of the order being placed. Overall, the food is delicious, budget friendly priced but large servings with good service from staff. I guess that's why it's always a struggle to find a table!
