Satay Street

The building I work in is located super close to lots of food places. Most of them are the same as what you see in any Singaporean office building- a mini food court, some 'upmarket' fast food places etc.

However, I am also lucky enough to be just down the street from La Pau Sat, which means one really excellent place that others don't get- Satay Street.

One Friday night a few weeks ago myself and some work friends decided that some satay would be the perfect way to wind down after the working week.

We headed across the road and grabbed some seats, right outside Best Satay 8, which had been recommended to us. Of course moments after we sat down the friendly Tiger Beer lady arrived and we were soon sipping some cool Tiger beer while we considered what (i.e. how much!) we wanted to eat.

In the end we got a mixed satay set- a whole bunch of chicken, beef and prawn satay. In minutes we were chowing down on fresh, hot satay. The prawns arrived first, partially in their shell and marinated with a spicy paste. Of course they were messy to eat, but the work made them all the more delicious. They were plump and juicy and honestly I could have eaten an entire plateful!

The chicken and beef satay appeared to be threaded rather than the minced and stuffed on a stick kind. They also came with cucumber which was perfect to dip into the thick peanuty sauce.

When our set first arrived we honestly didn't know if we would be able to finish it all. Look at the size of the plate!

But of course, we finished the whole lot. Satay is just one of those foods that you can pick up and munch on over and over and its not until 10 minutes later that you realise you have eaten about 15 sticks!

On the way out I also stopped to watch the cooking process. Its hard not to get the sweet smelling smoke all over you but its amazing to watch. The sticks are thrown on the coals, topped up with oil and turned over until perfectly charred through. Its a good thing there is so much smoke or I would be eating lunch here everyday!

I reckon I could eat all that...
