Satay Street

The building I work in is located super close to lots of food places. Most of them are the same as what you see in any Singaporean office building- a mini food court, some 'upmarket' fast food places etc.

However, I am also lucky enough to be just down the street from La Pau Sat, which means one really excellent place that others don't get- Satay Street.

Spize the Makan Place

I am almost physically incapable of coming to Singapore and not eating at Spize. On one trip back from the UK I had a five or six hour stop over in Singapore and some friends met me at the airport. Where did I want to go they asked? And Spize was top of the list!

There is one thing that will always get me going back to Spize- the murtabak. There is actually a wide range of food served there and I've heard its pretty good. But why try something else when you have found the best thing on the menu?

Food First

So seeing that I am back in Singapore for four months you would think that I would be posting about some delicious Singaporean food that is not available in Australia and that I missed trying the first time.

Well, unfortunately that is not the case. This post is about a food that is much more humble, and a lot healthier than my favourite hawker centre foods.

Cheat Sausage Rolls

Hello all!

Yes I have been on hiatus, and yes I will continue to blame my lack of full time internet and not the hours of my new job and my inherent laziness. But I'm back now and with a recipe that if nothing else will exhibit the aforementioned laziness- cheat sausage rolls!

Lamingtons

Oh my so much has happened since my last post! I think it has been a bit too long. I've changed jobs, bought an apartment and started getting all the things ready to be a proper grown up (scary huh?)

This is a recipe I've had sitting around since January, waiting to be shared with the world...

Every Australia Day I make lamingtons. I love them so much that if I had the time I would make them more often than once per year!

If you have not heard of lamingtons before then this post is definitely for you. They are traditional Australian cake, made by rolling fresh butter cake in a runny chocolate icing before dipping them in desiccated coconut. Best served fresh (but a bit chilled) they are as messy to make as they are delicious to eat!

Lunar New Year: Chicken and Chive Dumplings

Next Monday 24 January we shall enter the year of the Dragon. This excites me because I was born in the year of the Dragon and can only hope that it means this year will be good.

L and I decided to have a bit of a pre- Lunar New Year feast, complete with home made dumplings. Ok well we cheated with the wrappers but really there is only so much of your Sunday that you can justify not doing the things you need to do to prepare for the week ahead! In anticipation of the feasts ahead I thought I would share our dumpling experience!

India

Just before Christmas, H and I travelled to India for a friend's wedding. We took the opportunity to visit a few other places that I have always wanted to see. So I thought I would share with you some of my favourite foods and memories from the trip!

Kolkata
The wedding was held here over four days, and the food was amazing! So much fresh fish, marinated and served so many different ways. I didn't know the names of most of the fish nor was I sure of the ingredients but when a plate came to the table accompanied by freshly cooked chapati there was no way I was going to refuse!
